DD #53: Hands 04
You might have noticed that, by the beginning of the week, I started to continue the most important sections (the girls, monsters, and the character section) - and one of them is definetaly the supreme discipline of drawing hands. Although the last hand session is weeks ago and of the early steps of this odyssey (DD #12: Focus on Hands 03), I will refresh the section from now on, weekly.

DD #52: Female P 04
Today I first visited a real nude art course to draw from some professional models. It's really another standard! I had to takes photos instead of scans because those are all DIN A3 (30x40). The Master said it would be even better to draw on A2 with charcoal. Below you see the best results and the last one is a collection of some scratches or "studies". My favourite one is the proning, the fourth.

Remember, when I proclaimed the "Morbid Monster Mythology"? It's time to tell you more visual tales of this mythology!

DD #43: Nudes
Again and again I control my earned knowledge about the female curves by creating nudes from mind (first image) and then try to use some constructional rules on photo ref work (second). The more I understand the female body the easier I can copy difficult references.

DD #42: Dooodle
On journey, especially on rail, two kinds of thoughts dominate your mind: 'look, what boredom the environment emits' and 'let's remember what has been long long ago'.
Well and here is what I visualized out of those loose threads-
(btw, this is my first clown since 2 years. I think there is something in the air.)
(btw, all the leather shading on this nice chair was done only to point out the contrasting clear shell design - whiter than white, right?)

DD #36: The Miller Manifesto
As I told you last Tuesday some graphic novels have something adorable for me. Those types build up a special mood and look by setting lights and shadows nearly without grey tones, just the pure black and white - a minimalistic difficult style. The creators show a very high knowledge and aesthetic feeling for composition, abstraction and character design. One of them is the Frank Miller, and every piece I read from him seems to enlighten me - they tell the truthes of the Miller Manifesto. However, I have some predilection for black shapes anyway - they bridge the 2D and 3D.
Examples of Frank Miller's graphic novel "Sin City - A Dame To Kill For":

DD #34: Ruth Kiddo 01
I started to colorize the Ruth Kiddo concept from DD#33 (yesterday) today. My first thoughts were on the lighting and I chose a soft frontlight with strong backlight. I think this will get difficult on the skin, but it worked quite well on the semi-transparent skirt - whereas the white, shaded bra looks quite grey-colored. I'll continue later on.

DD #33: Go with the Flow
This day was just crazy. It started mourning, uncreative, quite dreadful.
All I needed was a nice female concept. So I sketched the furious Ruth Kiddo, the bloody chainsow girl, that does anything to run HIM down. I will digitalize her later on, maybe she'll be a smoking girl?
Excited, but still frustrated of quite unsexy curves of Mrs. Kiddo I visited the great IdrawGirls-Blog to finally find the Holy Grail of Female Perfection. The video tutorials are really helpful! ... as a matter of fact I found neither perfection nor accomblished beauty but some nice comic-style poses I just got to copy. Thanks Xia!
Enlighted by such fine lines I noticed that my own stroke was still quite rough and unsecure. When several persian descendants passed my way I noticed some funny expression and - oh sweetest muse - I finally dropped the smoothest outlines!

DD #30: Sleeping Freddy 02
Hi Peeps! I just wanted to investigate every step of the creation of a digital illustration - so I'm still stuck in the very early part of the general composition. If I have enough time I better complete several version and views to have some material to seriously combine in the end. Oh the cleverness of me! ('will we ever come to an end??')
More and more, especially by the upcoming comic adaption era I fell in love with the unique graphic style most comics have. The adapting movies show the gorgeous effects of a good image composition, which is a key factor for building up the unique atmosphere of the movie. In my opinion "The Spirit" (2009) shows this perfectly by producing great images with a minimal contextual overlay, say: the plot is nearly nonsense, the piece is brilliant. Maybe the art communication has outrun the story communication, finally?
